MDC Alliance presidential candidate Nelson Chamisa has dismissed 21 of the 23 presidential candidates who will be contesting in the July 30 elections as pretenders. Chamisa said that he is not worried about the record number of candidates as the competition was actually between him and President Emmerson Mnangagwa. Speaking to the Daily News on Sunday through his new spokesperson, Dr Nkululeko Sibanda, Chamisa said,
There is no competition here . . . the only person worth noting (in the presidential race, other than Chamisa) is Mnangagwa, others are just pretenders. At any rate, we still have a lot of time before the elections, and there is room to reach out to the other parties…I tell you, if Zanu PF members were to read our documents, they too would vote for us . . . so there is still time to change many things.
This will be the first election which will not feature former President Robert Mugabe ever since Zimbabwe got its Independence from Britain in 1980.
