The Zanu PF Masvingo politician Aligirnia Samson is reported to have said that President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Zanu-PF do not need Mashonaland votes to win the July 30 harmonised elections. Speaking at a rally in Batanai, Samson is quoted by Tell Zimbabwe as saying,
…For the past years, we have been suffering a lot while voting for Mashonaland guys where our former president came from. We should only be worried of whether Midlands, Matabeleland and Manicaland are going to support us…Now is our time and we are going to see meaningful developments if we vote for President Mnangagwa. People in Mashonaland may feel sidelined but it’s now time for Masvingo to shine. Even if Mashonaland chooses not to vote for people outside their province as they used to enjoy with Mugabe, Zanu PF will win resoundingly with other provinces.
