Commenting on the high number of presidential candidates, MDC Alliance principal Tendai Biti said Emmerson Mnangagwa has lowered the standards such that everyone believes they can be president.
Speaking to NewZimbabwe.com, Biti gave an example of Elton Mangoma whom he said is not presidential material but would make a good MP. Biti also said he does not consider Mnangagwa to be Presidential material because of his involvement in Gukurahundi. Said Biti:
Part of the problem is that standards have been lowered and this person (Mnangagwa) has been so poor. Everybody knows they can do better. We need a PHD study on how dislocated and disjunctured our society is. That we can create so many candidates is a reflection of cognitive dissonance and also standards are so low; that a man can sit with his wife and she says ‘baba you are now President’. Look at my friend Elton Mangoma. He is not presidential material. He can make a good MP. You can’t just wake up; because your wife has given you a good massage and then you say ‘I want to be President’.

Mnangagwa worked in the Prime minister’s department and he worked with the coopted members of the old CID and He managed through his intelligence and ability to work with people for the benefit of Zimbabwe. What he achieved WAS to catch all subversive elements of Remnant Zipra officers and commanders who had masterminded the Entumbane uprising that wanted to create a tribal based civil war to unseat Robert Mugabe who had been resoundingly voted into office. This includes Davengwa no wonder why he clings,to Zapu against the Unity accord between the founding fathers Joshua Nkomo and Mugabe signed. In a,nutshell it shows ED had got negotiating skills which Chamisa and Biti NCUBE and Mutambara haven’t got. They split into smithereens from Tsvangirai and the fragmentation is still going on in the So called Alliance. They relegate people like Coltart and Eddy Cross and kick out Khupe . On the other Hand ED managed to negotiate and be one with the Army He managed to remove Mugabe in a spectacular bloodless coup. Can anybody in the rank and file of the MDC aliance say they could have pulled a mamoth task like that they probably would have sold each other for thirty pieces of silver.
