Voters’ Roll Finally Available, Consolidated List Has More Than 5.6m Registered Voters

Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) chairperson Justice Priscilla Chigumba has announced that the Voters’ Roll is now available in electronic form. The voters roll will be given to all candidates who were successful in getting nominated starting from today. The fees for the roll are as follows:

  • Ward Voters’ Roll – $2
  • Constituency Voters’ Roll – $10
  • National Voters’ Roll – $20

The Consolidated Voters’ Roll has  5 681 604 voters.  The first copy of the roll was handed over to Bruce Nyoni, a registered voter representing people with disabilities. Said Justice Chigumba

We did not avail final Voters Roll before the sitting of the Nomination Court because we were still cleaning it and we had to avail a provisional Voters’ Roll at all our Nomination Court

The opposition and civic society organisations had cried foul about the delay in the release of the Voters’ Roll as it was supposed to have been available before the President proclaimed the dates of the elections. On Thursday Harare High Court judge Justice Tawanda Chitapi ordered Zec to release the provisional voters roll that was used for inspection to the independent election watchdog, Electoral Resource Centre within five days of the demand being made. The Lovemore Madhuku led National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) party also sued Zec at the High Court on Thursday, demanding the release of the voters’ roll before the sitting of the nomination court.

  1. Ava mai ava vanedambudziko. As a judge she has decided to invite negative comments. Whats wrong with these people that man the ZEC? They have the stinking behaviour of wanting to invite unnecessary disorder!

  2. Opposition is doing its best to turn the most important elections into the swamp that isn’t there anymore. I’ve seen this in many countries and i don’t want the same for Zimbabwe. ED and ZANU PF is our hope. We are the voters and we want a free and fair elections!
