Robert Mugabe Surrenders US$24 Million Zanu-PF Bank Account To Which He Was Only Signatory

Former president Robert Mugabe is reported to have handed over a Zanu-PF account to which he was the sole signatory. The account contained US$24 million dollars and is its existence is reported to have been known by a few select people who include President Emmerson Mnangagwa and former first lady Grace Mugabe.

A senior Zanu-PF official who spoke to The Zimbabwe Independent said,

After the coup, there were worries that Mugabe would refuse with the account as he was the only signatory to it. However, he was engaged and he agreed to surrender the account which had US$24 million in it…He could have refused with it, but he felt that he does not need to act like a rogue leader and just let go. Of course, the account was and is still open to abuse.

The US$million was added to Zanu-PF’s war chest which already stands at a massive US$200 million sourced from China, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Equatorial Guinea.  The money is being used for campaigning in order to win the July 30, harmonised elections.
