Parly Portfolio Committee Excuses Mugabe From Testifying, Says Mugabe, Mpofu May Have Been Complicit

The Temba Mliswa led Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Mines and Energy has excused former president Robert Mugabe from appearing before the committee. The Committee had previously threatened to summon Mugabe and to charge him with contempt of Parliament if he refused to comply. This was after Mugabe had snubbed the hearings twice. The committee which was investigating missing diamond revenues from the Chiadzwa diamond fields said in its report,

The former President, His Excellency Cde RG Mugabe, was unable to attend at the appointed hour and the committee was due to meet to consider summoning him as a measure of last resort but after consultations with the Honourable Speaker, he was recused from attending…In the same vein the non-appearance by the Former Head of State His Excellency Cde RG Mugabe to answer questions on the missing $15 billion diamond revenues, heightens the perception that both (Mugabe and Obert Mpofu) may have been complicit on this issue…The Ninth Parliament must pursue the matter to its logical conclusion.
