David Coltart has written MDC Alliance principals requesting to run for senate instead of a parliamentary seat.
Coltart was set to contest in Bulawayo East constituency where he was beaten by Ms Thabitha Khumalo (MDC-T) in the last elections. In an interview with The Chronicle yesterday, Coltart said he took the decision after consulting his family and law firm. He said he was advised to contest for the senatorial seat. Said Coltart:
And my family and my law firm would rather that I stand in the Senate. The precise reason behind it is that senators do more of law making than running a constituency. And that is the thinking behind it and that is my role as a lawyer.
Coltart’s exit could see Khumalo contesting for the Bulawayo East constituency seat.

This is rather confusing- is he gunning for the senate seat because he lost to Thabita for the parliamentary seat or it is as he says?
