Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Paul Mavima has said that his ministry is working on plans to have schools close a week before the election day. Schools will be used as polling stations.
Said Mavima,
We know that it will be distractive to have elections on July 30, when schools are in session…Most of our schools are polling stations for elections. We will deal with that and our permanent secretary will be working on that so that maybe we close a week earlier to allow elections to take place. Then we will find a way to catch up for that lost week.
The 2018 harmonised election will be held on the 30th of July 2018, while schools had been initially supposed to close on the 9th of August 2018.
