The Judicial Services Commission (JSC) is looking to fill vacancies for 8 High Court Assessors who will be based in Harare. The assessors will sit with judges to determine Fiscal and Income Tax Appeals. Assessors are usually non-lawyers who sit together with a judge to provide expert advice or guidance on local practices. However, an assessor’s opinion is not binding to the judge.
In a notice the Judicial Services Commission said,
Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the positions of High Court Assessor that have arisen within the Judicial Service Commission. The Commission is a dynamic, organization that comprises of competent and professional staff. The vacancies which are to be filled are based at High Court Harare.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
– Sits together with the Judge in hearing Fiscal and Income Tax appeals.
– Assists the Judge in assessing evidence adduced in court.QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS.
– Must have a track record of community leadership or working in a public office.
– Must be able to read and write a dissenting judgment.
– Must be at least 50 years old.
