The Livestock Update Report released by the Livestock and Meat Advisory Council (LMAC) has revealed that the number of stock theft cases have gone up by 46 percent. The LMAC attributed this to the reduced police presence on the country’s roads since the fall of former president Robert Mugabe. In 2017, 738 cases were recorded while in the three months up to March 2018, 1079 cases have been reported. Part of the Livestock Update Report reads,
From November 2017 to January 2018, reduced police presence on the country’s major roads has coincided with the increased incidence of movement of stolen livestock. The Zimbabwe Republic Police Anti Stock Theft Unit has activated a number of strategies aimed at countering the increase in stock theft.
