The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (Comesa) pre-election assessment team led by Ambassador Ashraf Rashed yesterday endorsed efforts to ensure free and fair elections in Zimbabwe.
De-briefing Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Sibusiso Busi Moyo in Harare yesterday, Ambassador Rashed said the nine member delegation met with relevant Government ministries, Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec), Chief Justice (Luke Malaba), Commissioner General of Police Godwin Matanga), opposition parties and the civic society. Said Ambassador Rashed:
We had a wide range of meetings with all stakeholders. There is a lot of positive elements in place. The impression we got is that the things are moving to ensure free and fair elections in Zimbabwe. I am sure that in the coming days more steps will be taken to ensure you have free and fair elections.
