Teachers Say 17.5 Pay Increase Is A Betrayal Of Workers, Cite Cars Bought For Chiefs

Teachers have dismissed the government’s offer of a pay increment of 17.5 percent for civil servants. The teachers argue that the government is failing to prioritise its resources as it has managed to fork out money to purchase vehicles for traditional chiefs. Said Progressive Teachers’ Union of Zimbabwe secretary-general Raymond Majongwe,

…Nurses got their demands because they stood as a sector. We must do the same. The government continues to negotiate with their darlings in Apex…We have seen cars bought for chiefs and a lot of opulence and extravagance of unbelievable proportions. Must we be silent and suffer until death? No! We will fight to the bitter end.
