I Will Not Seek Retribution, I Do Not Preach Hate: Mnangagwa
Addressing people at the memorial service of his late nephew Garikai Nyathi, President Emmerson Mnangagwa said that he would continue to advocate for peace and love. He said that he would not seek retribution against those who previously tormented him. Said Mnangagwa,
Wherever I go, I preach the gospel of unity, I preach the gospel of love, I always exhort Zimbabweans to unite, to live in harmony and work for the development of our country, and this will surely guarantee me a ticket to Heaven. Have you ever heard me preaching the gospel of hate? Those who used to do that are there and you know them, those who were at the receiving end of endless attacks (himself) always stood for what is right. I want to be a servant of the people, I want to continue preaching peace, love and unity, encouraging Zimbabweans to live in harmony.
Before his ascension to power, through a military coup in November, Mnangagwa had been the victim of scathing public attacks from former first lady Grace Mugabe.
