Mnangagwa Does Not Want To Fire Mukupe, Mukupe Must Simply Resign: Lumumba

Speaking on his show The Lumumba Files on ZiFM Stereo on Thursday evening, Acie Lumumba said President Emmerson Mnangagwa does not want to fire deputy finance minister Terence Mukupe because he needs to protect the votes.

Lumumba suggests that mukupe should resign in the wake of his comments that the army will not allow MDC Alliance presidential candidate Nelson Chamisa to rule if he wins the 2018 elections as well as the ARV slur during an interview on Star FM on Thursday. He said that if Mukupe does not resign it shows that he does not care about Mnangagwa. He said that Mukupe is the single risk that can cost Mnangagwa the election. He urged Mukupe to resign. Said Lumumba:

Here is why I say deputy minister Terence Mukupe must not be fired. He mustn’t be fired because if he gets fired he is making life hard for the President. Deputy minister Terence Mukupe must simply resign. He mustn’t get fired, he must resign. If he resigns he gives himself dignity, he gives the President dignity. If he waits to get fired he is simply making the job hard for the President because the President doesn’t want to fire a Zanu-PF sitting MP. The President doesn’t want to lose votes. Remember Terence Mukupe recently won the primary elections in Harare East, a contentious seat where he has to go against Tendai Biti and Obert Gutu in the next elections. Zanu-PF need that seat. Zanu-PF need to protect those votes. So here you have the incumbent in a seat that was predominantly MDC. Zanu-PF just took it from MDC and now its in Zanu-PF and Zanu-PF is costing itself that seat. If Terrence Mukupe does not resign then he cares nothing about the President. He not only exposed the President by his reckless statements that have caused an international concern and security risk. He has also exposed the party and himself. Some of you might have had a chance to catch onto the debate that he had with Tendai Biti and what a disappointment.
