Former Energy Minister Samuel Undenge has implicated President Emmerson Mnangagwa in a case where he is facing criminal abuse of office charges. Speaking before Harare magistrate Hosea Mujaya on Tuesday, Undenge said he acted on directives from Mnangagwa’s office when he awarded Fruitful Communications a contract without going to tender.
Fruitful Communications is jointly owned by Zanu PF legislator for Highfield, Psychology Maziwisa and former ZBC News anchor Oscar Pambuka. The two will appear in court to answer to fraud charges. Undenge denied the criminal abuse of office charges arguing that he complied with Mnangagwa’s directive because Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC) public relations department was not performing well. His lawyer, lawyer Alex Muchadehama said Undenge was misled by Pambuka and Maziwisa that they had been authorised by Mnangagwa to work with ZPC.
