Home Affairs Minister Obert Mpofu has filed a $300 000 defamation lawsuit against Chief Felix Nhlanhla Ndiweni of Ntabazinduna for claiming that he stole their 200 cattle before making a docket opened against him at Mbembesi Police Station disappear.
Chief Ndiweni said this on Monday while testifying before Bulawayo magistrate Ms Gladmore Mushove in case in which he and 23 other villagers, are facing charges of malicious damage to property after allegedly destroying a local villager, Mr Fetti Mbele’s homestead. Chief Ndiweni told the court Mpofu was fighting against him and his co-accused persons because he stole his father’s 200 cattle.
Through his lawyer Mr Byron Sengweni of Sengweni Legal Practice, Mpofu filed summons at the Bulawayo High Court yesterday citing Chief Ndiweni as the defendant. He said Chief Ndiweni’s utterances caused damage to his reputation as a respected public official. He wants an order directing Chief Ndiweni to pay $300 000 in damages and for him to retract the utterances within 48 hours of the granting of order.
