Hwange Colliery Company Says Everyone Is On Half Pay, Including Management and Board
Hwange Colliery Company (HCC) board member Ntombizodwa Masuku has said that the board and management of the company have workers’ welfare at heart. She told the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Mines and Energy that everyone at the company is on half pay including management and board members.
Families of the workers have been protesting and petitioning for more than 100 days trying to get the company to pay the worker’s salary arrears dating back 5 years.
Said Masuku
The two weeks in and two weeks out also affects management and I can say that we do have the welfare of workers at heart. We are doing everything possible to ensure that workers are given their due benefits. Management also gets 50% salaries and board members get 50% board fees.
HCC has said that it is considering selling Hwange town in order to raise money to pay the workers $70 million in salaries owed.
