Priccilar Vengesai (37) was denied bail by Magistrate Victoria Mashamba and remanded in custody for attempting to bribe a High Court judge and later on a prosecutor. Magistrate Mashamba said that Vengesai was likely to commit the same offence if she was released on bail.
Vengesai who is a former Chitungwiza Municipality chamber secretary was initially arrested when she tried to bribe Justice Felistus Chatukuta. The judge, however, recorded the conversation and had Vengesai arrested. Vengesai then tried to bribe Prosecutor Michael Reza with $1000 so that he would decline to prosecute her case. However, Reza also recorded the conversation and managed to alert the police who arrested Vengesai while she was handing over the cash to Reza.
She is now awaiting trial while in custody.
