Mnangagwa Appoints David Hamadziripi As New Ambassador To South Africa

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has appointed David Douglas Hamadziripi as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of South Africa. Hamadziripi replaces Isaac Moyo who was appointed Director General of the the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) in December replacing Happyton Bonyongwe.

Hamadziripi’s appointment was announced by Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Misheck Sibanda in the Government Gazette released on Friday. Said Sibanda:

It is hereby notified that His Excellency the President has, in terms of sections 110(2)(i) and 204 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No. 20) Act 2013, appointed Mr David Douglas Hamadziripi as Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of South Africa.

Hamadziripi served as Zimbabwe’s ambassador to France under Robert Mugabe. He also served as acting Foreign Affairs secretary. Hamadziripi has served in many intergovernmental bodies in the United Nations (UN) and in the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
