Speaking to Daily News, Progressive Teachers’ Union (PTUZ) secretary general Raymond Majongwe said the newly formed Federation of Zimbabwe Educators’ Unions (FOZEU) will put Government on notice in the next 48 hours of an impending strike.
Majongwe said the firing of nurses by Vice President Constantino Chiwenga is evidence that the welfare of civil servants means nothing to the Emmerson Mnangagwa administration. Said Majongwe:
Their militaristic response given to the nurses’ strike is a lesson for all of us we are clearly being shown that our concerns and welfare mean nothing to them. An injury to one us an injury to all; therefore we must unite lest we perish. The teachers are next in line; they have silently threatened us already. They have shown us they are merciless and brutal.
FOZEU is made up of 6 teachers’ unions which broke away from the Apex Council which they accuse of being aligned to Government.
