Nurses Withdraw High Court Case Against VP Chiwenga

The Zimbabwe Nurses Association (ZINA) has withdrawn its case at the High Court against Vice President, General Constantino Chiwenga, Health Minister David Parirenyatwa and the Health Services Board. The nurses were challenging the decision by Chiwenga to summarily dismiss them for going on strike. The nurses wanted the decision to be declared null arguing that the Vice President does not have the legal authority to fire the nurses.

The matter was expected to be heard today (Thursday) before High Court judge Justice Amy Tsanga. However, ZINA has filed a notice with the Registrar of the High Court withdrawing their urgent chamber application.

The nurses have since called off the strike while the government has rehired all the nurses who were purportedly fired.

This is a developing story and will be updated with as more details come in.
