Mugabe Property Theft Case Postponed

The trial of a soldier Pepukai Zvakavapano who allegedly stole property worth $49 982 belonging to former president Robert Mugabe was postponed yesterday at the request of the State. The matter will now resume on May 3.

Zvakavapano was on perimeter guard duty at Zimbabwe House when he reportedly stole computers, laptops and computer accessories belonging to Mugabe. He appeared before Harare magistrate Ms Josephine Sande yesterday and was remanded to the new trial date. The State successfully applied for postponement arguing they wanted to furnish the defence with relevant documents for them to prepare for trial with Zvakavapano’s lawyer Mr Tinashe Mbala saying that he also needed time to go through the said documents.

Zvakavapano stole Mugabe’s property which had been locked away in containers located at the former Pollo Ground.
