Mugabe, Mujuru To Explain Missing Diamond Revenues Before Parly Committee on 9 May

Former president Robert Mugabe and his former deputy Joice Mujuru have been summoned to appear before the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Mines and Energy on the 9th of May. The two will appear before the Temba Mliswa led the parliamentary committee which is investigating corruption in the mining and sale of diamonds from Marange.

Said Mliswa on Thursday,

We have resolved that former President Mugabe comes with Mai Mujuru. They (Mugabe and Mujuru) were part of the praesidium. These are issues of accountability. It’s not a secret that diamonds were plundered and there is an inquiry. He (Mugabe) is the one who spoke about the $15 billion; so is it not improper when there is an inquiry into what that was about. How can you discipline a school teacher without asking the headmaster what went wrong? It’s proper governance. The constitution is very clear; the former President can be called to account.
