State Refuses To Withdraw Charges Against Acie Lumumba After Complainant Offered To Withdraw

Activist and media personality Acie Lumumba’s lawyer Webster Chinamhora yesterday accused the state of pursuing a vendetta against his client. This comes after the state refused to withdraw charges against Lumumba, real name William Gerald Mutumanje, despite the fact that the complainant in the matter Graham Tineyi had offered to withdraw the matter and had submitted an affidavit.

Lumumba is accused of stealing $8 000 in a botched currency trading deal. Lumumba allegedly collected and used without permission $8000 belonging to Graham Tineyi. The money had been left for safekeeping with a travel agent at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport. Lumumba allegedly sold the cash through a bank transfer.

Chinamhora claimed that the prosecutor had said that he was acting on instructions from Prosecutor-General Ray Goba. Goba is also under fire for refusing to withdraw rape charges against Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) Ministries leader Walter Magaya despite the fact that the complainant has withdrawn charges and vowed not to testify against Magaya.
