Magaya Rape Trial: Prophet Pleads Not Guilty, State To Produce 11 Witnesses

Founding leader of the Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) Ministries, Walter Magaya today appeared before Harare High Court judge Justice Amy Tsanga. Magaya pleaded not guilty to charges of rape, unlawful termination of pregnancy and obstruction of justice.

Prosecutor General Ray Goba who was leading the prosecution said that State was going to summon at least eleven witnesses to testify against Magaya. Goba also said that Magaya should be given restrictions because he is interfering with the State’s witnesses. However, Justice Tsanga ruled against the Prosecutor-General saying that an earlier court order which terminated Magaya’s bail conditions should stand. The case is set to continue on April 25.

The State’s main witness in the matter, Petronella Donhodzo Mandaza, last week declared that she will not testify against Magaya and accused Goba of forcing her to give false testimony against Magaya despite her confessing that none of the allegations ever took place.

Magaya stands accused of raping Mandaza and causing her to have an abortion sometime in 2015. He is also accused of obstructing the course of justice after he allegedly deposited US$100 000 into the complainant’s bank account so that she would not testify against him.
