Botswana President Ian Khama will be stepping down today after completing two terms in office. He will be succeeded by Mokgweetsi Masisi ahead of the 2019 elections. Masisi who is 55 years of age will be inaugurated tomorrow, on the 1st of April 2018, as Botswana’s 5th President. During his tenure as President, Ian Khama often butted heads with former president Robert Mugabe, who he did not get along with. The two often criticised each other’s way of governing. However, since the fall of Mugabe, Khama had proved himself amenable to working with Mugabe’s replacement, President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
