People Are Crying Out For The Return of Roadblocks, There Is Chaos Claims ZRP

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba has said that her office is fielding numerous calls from anxious citizens who want the police to relaunch roadblocks. Under former police commissioner general Augustine Chihuri, the ZRP mounted numerous roadblocks across the country’s roads and were accused of extorting motorists. However, this came to an end after the fall of former president Robert Mugabe following the military intervention in November 2017.  Speaking to journalists at a workshop in Gweru, Charamba said,

Right now if you go to Harare people are crying for roadblocks; why? Because there is chaos in the central business district, its chaotic because of congestion, it’s now a jungle.

Roadblocks are part of our police side duties, we cannot completely do away with roadblocks because now there is chaos and people have been complaining that the police is now behaving as if they don’t care. People are saying ZRP now you have developed an attitude that shows that you no longer want to do your job.

  1. Deploy your Police Force in the CBD not in long distance Highways Bulawayo to BeitbridgeRoad….your people are saying CBD…clarify please Assistance Commissioner Charity Charamba..

    1. WE DONT WANT ROADBLOCKS (FULL STOP). THE (ASS) COMMISSIONER WANTS TO TAKE US BACK TO THE TREES TO AN ERA THAT WAS PAINFULL AND CHARACTERISED BY HARASSMENT AND POLICE BRUTALITY.

  2. I am advocating for ZRP traffic police on the Lomagundi road between 2nd street and Westgate round about. Too many accidents in the past few weeks.

  3. THE CHAOS IS BETTER WITHOUT ROADBLOCKS THAN WITH ROADBLOCKS. UNLESS IT WILL BE A NEW FORM OF ROADBLOCK THAN THE ONES WE ALREADY KNOW.

  4. The ZIP are the ones who are crying because now they don’t get what they used get(intshontsho). They can put roadblocks as long it’s not gonna scare away tourists, disciplined a they were 3 decades ago.

  5. There would have to be a national referendum on this. I have no doubt that the conlusin would be a resounding ‘no road blocks’. It is the police who are crying.

  6. The reality of the matter is the police are broke now, they are now withdrawing their kids from expensive private schools, the police were never on roads to fight against roadblocks this l can challenge the Asst. Comm. Almost 98% these mushikashika cars belongs to police officers.

The money for the roadblocks used to be shared among the whole police station, we have always had highway patrols on our roads not that all police stations had a cake on the road for swindling ordinary Zimbabwean citizens.

Please Police Bosses, leave and keep the police on camps and let them hunt criminals not to hunt ordinary people.

We want to restore the dignity of our police force, we want to have the human nature of our police force, Charity Charamba if you are broke and you want to go back to the yester years where police were feared not respected, where police were ridiculed everywhere do that alone man the road block alone.

  7. i sorry to hear it that you are broke the people who birded you to pass through are also broke, it’s a nation of broken heart to have the most corrupt police in the world sorry charamba tarambisisa wipe you tears

  8. if she can give a quantitative justification then I can go along with her. how many criminals have been apprehended through your road blocks, how many accidents have been recorded after removal of these road blocks how many where recorded when we had roadblocks. besides you dont make decisions based on ”phone calls” on such issues it leaves one wondering if indeed we have qualified people in those offices.

  9. Muzhanje wakakuva mapurisa Maurice madzimai akafona kuti kumbahakuna vusavi you would just say rega ndinosvaya swaya Moita roadblock instant cash machine hakusisina work and earn as well vanhu vepi
