The Zimbabwe Medical Association (ZiMA) and the Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association (ZHDA) have refuted claims by the Health Services Board that Government had reached an agreement with doctors, nurses and other workers in the health sector, effectively ending an industrial action.
An article in The Herald said the Health Services Board had confirmed that an agreement had been reached with doctors who have been on strike since the beginning of March. ZiMA said ZHDA had informed them that no deal had been signed between the Ministry of Health and Childcare and the Health Services Board. Said ZiMA:
We are informed that no deal was signed. We do believe the Hon. Min. Of Health would not issue such a statement as it is untrue. If he did , it is unfortunate, perhaps regrettable that he would issue a false statement.
Speaking on their official Twitter account ZHDA said the act by the Health Ministry of issuing a false statement shows that Government is not sincere about addressing the concerns raised by doctors. Said ZHDA:
That the Ministry of Health and Childcare would proceed to announce that an agreement has been reached when that is untrue shows that they are entering the negotiation process in bad faith hence the delay in finding a solution to the impasse.
