I Didn't Ruin Zimbabwe Says Mugabe, Acknowledges Human Rights Abuses

Former Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe told ITV News Africa Correspondent John Ray that he did not ruin Zimbabwe.

He argued that Zimbabwe is better off than most African countries and that people will not starve in the country because they have their land. Said Mugabe:

Ah ruined, ruined of course no. If anything, in comparison to other countries in Africa, we have had greater prosperity here and people have their land. They won’t starve in this country which in other countries happens. It’s only now doing that. Education we are the model here.

He appeared to acknowledge some human rights abuses, however, saying:

Yes we have been accused of that and on that side, yes some errors were done. They continue to be done. Human Rights that’s a very difficult area. I agree we offended in regard to that area. No I think its more in relation to how we handled other people…
