Levi Nyagura Has Case To Answer: Magistrate

In her ruling, Ms Tilda Mazhande said University of Zimbabwe (UZ) Vice Chancellor Professor Levi Nyagura who is accused of illegally awarding former First Lady Grace Mugabe a PhD. has a case to answer and should remain on remand pending trial.

Through his lawyer Advocate Lewis Uriri, Nyagura challenged his placement on remand, arguing that there was no reasonable suspicion warranting placement on remand. He made another application to have the investigating officer called to the witness stand so that he could be cross-examined on certain issues relating to his placement on remand. The State opposed both applications, saying it laid sufficient evidence which led to Nyagura being placed on remand.

In her ruling magistrate Mazhanje said Nyagura failed to provide sufficient reasons to support the application for refusal of placement on remand. Nyagura was further remanded to April 5.
