Attorney General Machaya Loses Salary After Thief Clones His Debit Card

 

Martin Kupeta (24) appeared before Harare Magistrate Josephine Sande on Friday facing charges of illegally stealing Attorney-General Prince Machaya’s salary. Kupeta is alleged to have used a cloned bank card to steal the money, although it was not revealed how he cloned the card. He was granted $100 bail and remanded to the 12th of April together with his alleged accomplice shop assistant Molleen Karen Ntoya.

The court was told that Kapeta used the cloned card to make a payment of $3 302 for 192 cases of brown sugar for Shamamba Trading Company for which he was given the money in cash. Kupeta also used the card to make a purchase of $873.  In total, the Attorney General was prejudiced of $4 175 of his $4 343 salary.

Machaya made a police report leading to Kupeta’s arrest after getting alerts from his bank on his mobile phone.
