"Khupe Is Not Fighting To Be MDC-T President"

MDC-T National Deputy Organising Secretary Amos Chibaya who is also MP for Mkoba Constituency has claimed that the current violence that has characterised the opposition party has nothing to do with succession but the distribution of seats under the MDC Alliance in Matabeleland ahead of the 2018 elections.

He added that the problem existed even before the passing of Morgan Tsvangirai. He also agreed with the party’s deputy president thokozani Khupe’s view that there is no need for MDC-T to give some of its seats to its MDC Alliance partners since it is strong in the Matabeleland region. Said Chibaya:

The challenge with Madam Khupe is not about the President to be frank with you. There were issues even before the passing away of President Tsvangirai which had to do with the alliance. Issues to do with seat distribution where Honorable Khupe was of the view that our party is strong in Matabeleland, which is very correct, therefore there is no need for us to give some of the seats to our alliance partners.

However, Khupe has been quoted in the media stating her desire to lead MDC-T saying she will not recognize Chamisa as the National Council has no decree to make such decisions as appointing leaders.
