The Harare High Court dismissed an application by four Ordinary Level pupils at St David’S Bonda High School for the release of their November 2017 results after the Zimbabwe School Examination Council (Zimsec)’s decision to withhold their results after they were accused of cheating.
High Court judge, Justice Happius Zhou dismissed the application, saying “examinations are a matter of national importance and Zimsec should be allowed to take steps designed to protect their integrity”. Zhou said the “court cannot interfere with the decision taken by Zimsec without aiding an illegality”.
The parents challenged Zimsec’s decision to cancel the results over an alleged leaked mathematics paper 1 examination, arguing it was in violation of the country’s Constitution. They also argued that Zimsec had no evidence to substantiate the cheating claims. One of the parents argued that the questions her daughter revised with her colleagues, were past exam papers and external question papers and questions of all types they anticipated would come in any examination, but Justice Zhou ruled otherwise.

that’s the problem this cheating started years back in the 1980 two years after independence some of the minsters children did have the examination test papers most of the school which have high performances the use the set papers for revision ask grace and joice hey will tell you better don’t use these children as sacrifice hang the minister of education mnangagwa should intervene they localised but send they children international
The pupils should be given their results. If, however, there is a suspicion that they accessed examination papers, then they should re-wright the paper. The important thing is to investigate how they accessed the material.
If they are good enough, we should let them proceed with their education. The other two ladies were awarded with their certificates of Doctorate. At the end of the day, facts will prove if those people are subjectively put to test. The problem is not the student or teacher but the Government and its examination board.
It’s only because of high level of corruption that leads to the leaking of exams. But ZIMSEC must improve it’s systems in terms of security on setting exams
