A Masvingo serial rapist, pleaded the court to sentence him to death as his trial was finalised. The rapist, Charles Magombedze, asked the court to hang him saying he had evil spirits which he could not exorcise. The evil spirits, he said, led him to commit the crimes.
Earlier during the trial, he also claimed that he was part of a cult whose goal was to spill blood and to have unprotected sex to breed another generation of the cult’s members.
Magombedze was eventually sentenced to 72 years in jail.
Magombedze used dangerous weapons like iron bars, axes, machetes and bricks to attack the women and rape them. He was convicted on eight counts of rape on his own plea of guilty.
Magombedze faces several other crimes including unlawful entry and theft. He also accused of attempted murder for stabbing a woman five times and attempting to rape her. She fled before he could.
