Mugabe Should Not Complain About Ill-treatment, Lack Of Pension, He Did The Same To Our Father: Banana's Family

The family of Zimbabwe’s first president Canaan Banana has highlighted the hypocrisy of former president Robert Mugabe who is crying out claiming that he is being denied his pension and constitutional benefits. The Banana family said that Mugabe had done exactly the same to their father, who they say was ill-treated and denied his government pension. Mugabe also denied Banana national hero status when he died in 2003.

A source close to the family told Southern Eye,

Had his government ensured the former President Canaan Banana and First Lady (Janet) were fully accorded their retirement benefits as highly respected citizens according to Zimbabwe laws, perhaps him and his wife would have had a smooth transition to forced retirement.

In the past three months, since President Mnangagwa took over the Presidency, the family was hoping that this was now a reformed leadership in government, and State they have sent communications more than three times, twice being through the Zimbabwe embassy in London, where they recorded some of the conversations with the Embassy staff.

Mugabe recently told African Union (AU) Commission Chairman Moussa Faki Mahamat,

… We have constitutional benefits, for example, but these are being denied. It’s not like I am crying for those benefits I joined the struggle to fight to free my people. not to personally benefit anything, but why deny me benefits that I am constitutionally entitled to?
