MDC-T Spokesperson Obert Gutu Says We Will Not Back "Violent Thug And Warlord" To Be President Of Zim

Obert Gutu the disputed national spokesperson of the troubled opposition MDC-T party, has declared that he will never back a “violent thug and warlord” to become the president of Zimbabwe. While Gutu does not explicitly mention any name, the remarks seem to be pointed at new president of the MDC-T Nelson Chamisa. This comes after violence broke out at the MDC-T’s provincial offices on Sunday in Bulawayo as rival factions fought for control of the building. Violence also broke out at the funeral of the late founding leader of the opposition party, Morgan Tsvangirai, in Buhera when youths assaulted senior party leaders who include vice-president Thokozani Khupe.

Speaking on microblogging site, Twitter, Gutu said:

Anyone who thinks that we are going to back a violent thug and warlord to be President of Zimbabwe is simply dreaming.Zimbabwe deserves better.The people of Zimbabwe deserve better.The people shall decide in 2018.

He has previously said,

Cowards invariably resort to violence as their default mode in political contestation.Cowards know that they’re on a self – delusional roller coaster to a humiliating and crushing electoral defeat.

Gutu was suspended last week after the MDC-T’s National Council met and appointed Nelson Chamisa as the new leader of the party. Gutu who was suspended for fanning factionalism, dismissed the suspension saying that the meeting was “bogus.” Said Gutu

I have not been suspended; as you can see, I am here in my official capacity as MDC-T spokesperson. That was a bogus national council meeting with no power to suspend me.

If anything, I have not received any letter from those people
