MDC-T’s vice president Thokozani Khupe has insisted that she is the party’s rightful leader dismissing the opposition party’s National Council meeting which chose Nelson Chamisa as the party’s new leader last week. Speaking after an attack at the party’s provincial offices in Bulawayo on Sunday, Khupe said that Chamisa is afraid of going to Congress because he knows that he will lose. She also vowed to continue fighting after accusing Chamisa of being the instigator of violence.
Said Khupe,
It is a sad reality that some of our party members have resorted to violence for the love of power
…We have argued that those who want to lead must subject themselves to a congress. They have refused because they know they will lose and that is why they are resorting to violence.
But we will not be deterred. If anything, this has emboldened us because our people have said we must not back down. We will fight and show them that the people are on our side. We will fight and win this election.
We are the true MDC which does not discriminate.
MDC-T national spokesperson Obert Gutu, who was suspended last week for fanning factionalism, also dismissed the National Council meeting as well as his purported suspension. Said Gutu,
I have not been suspended; as you can see, I am here in my official capacity as MDC-T spokesperson. That was a bogus national council meeting with no power to suspend me.

Thokozani, can you please shut up. lf l were you l would rally behind Chamisa and and settle for Vice President. lt has always been the norm with Zimbabwean politics that the Vice presidency has always been from Matabeleland, why do you think that should change now. lf you want to taste power just settle settle for Vice Presidency sister.
