"Ambrose Mutinhiri Quit Zanu-PF After Being Appointed G40 Party Leader By Mugabe"

A Government official who spoke to The Herald on condition of anonymity has revealed why former Minister of State for Mashonaland East Province, Ambrose Mutinhiri resigned from both Parliament and Zanu-PF.

The source who spoke on condition of anonymity said Mutinhiri decided to resign after being appointed the leader of the G40 political party New Patriotic Front by former President Robert Mugabe. Other members of the party according to the source are Walter Mzembi and Jappy Jaboon in Masvingo, Makhosini Hlongwane and Simbaneuta Mudarikwa in Midlands Province , Edgar Mbwembwe and Beatrice Nyamupinga in Mashonaland East as well as Eunice Sandi Moyo in Matabeleland. The source claims Mutinhiri met Mugabe at his Blue Roof residence on Thursday and was appointed the New Patriotic Front’s leader. Said the Government source:

And the decision of that meeting was that Ambrose Mutinhiri was then appointed or anointed as the interim leader of the NPF. Obviously, there is still a presumption that former President Mugabe retains an appeal and, therefore, anoints leadership to this new, old political formation. This is G40 by a different name. And the idea being to appropriate the Patriotic Front in order to give it the decency and resonance of the liberation struggle so as to undermine Zanu-PF during the forthcoming elections.

It is believed that Mutinhiri will assume leadership in the interim before Grace Mugabe eventually takes over.
