Flamboyant businessman Wicknell Chivayo has claimed that the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Mines and Energy is biased against him and is conducting a witch hunt. This comes after the committee which is chaired by Temba Mliswa discovered two cabins, incomplete ablution facilities and an incomplete perimeter fence at the site of the Gwanda Solar Power Project. The $200 million tender was awarded to Wicknell’s company Intratek Zimbabwe in 2013, although no progress seems to have been made. This is despite the fact that Wicknell received a $5 million advance from the Zimbabwe Power Company even though he did not have a bank guarantee. ZPC has disputed the figure saying they gave Wicknell $7 million instead.
Chivayo took to Twitter to defend himself, after criticism, following the portfolio committee’s field trip. He said that he was being targetted because of a picture which shows him having lunch with former first lady Grace Mugabe and her son Robert Mugabe Jr. Chivayo made numerous allegations against Mliswa saying that he has an agenda.
