Mnangagwa Loyalist Mutodi Tells Parirenyatwa, Sekeramayi To Withdraw Lawsuit Over Mnangagwa Poisoning Claims

Avowed supporter of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Energy Mutodi has written to former Minister of Defence Sydney Sekeramayi and Minister of Health David Parirenyatwa telling the pair to drop the $40 000 lawsuits against him, if they are no longer interested in pursuing it. The two ministers sued Mutodi last year alleging that he had defamed them when he claimed that they were the prime suspects in the poisoning of then Vice President Mnangagwa.

A letter written to the Ministers’ lawyers reads:

Please kindly note that we filed our plea on October 27, 2017, and we have not heard from you. May you kindly indicate if you still intend to pursue this matter? If you have no intention to do so, may you file a notice of withdrawal?

The letter comes a few weeks after Harare Magistrate Rumbidzayi Mugwagwa dismissed criminal charges against Mutodi when the state failed to oppose Mutodi’s application for refusal of further remand.

Mutodi was facing charges of causing disaffection in the defence forces and insulting former president Robert Mugabe after he had allegedly written a Facebook post saying that a coup was likely if Mugabe was not careful in choosing his successor.  The post was before the November military intervention.
