Tsvangirai To Get State Assisted Funeral
President Emmerson Mnangagwa revealed that the late Morgan Tsvangirai will receive a state assisted funeral.
Speaking to The Herald on the sidelines of the official opening of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) new headquarters in Harare yesterday, President Mnangagwa said Government would assist in every possible way to ensure a dignified send-off for Tsvangirai who at one time was Zimbabwe’s Prime Minister. Said Mnangagwa:
We will make him State-assisted funeral. It will be taken by the State. We had him as Prime Minister for a period of five years or so, it’s very important that we as a Government we must pay our respects to one of us.
FeedbackSeveral prominent people, which include Temba Mliswa and Trevor Ncube, had called for the veteran opposition leader who succumbed to colon cancer on Wednesday night, to be declared a national hero. According to the National Heroes Act only the president, and not the Zanu-PF Politburo as is sometimes reported, declares national hero status.
