Biti Accuses Mnangagwa, Former Allies Of Tribal Politics, Warns That Zim Could Turn Into Kenya

Former minister of finance and leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Tendai Biti has accused President Emmerson Mnangagwa as well as his colleagues in the opposition of fanning tribalism by playing tribal politics. Speaking at the Sapes Trust last week, Biti warned that Zimbabwe risked turning into another Kenya. Said Biti:

… I have always argued that if the post-coup Zimbabwe was a law firm, it would be called Moyo, Sibanda and Associates.

That’s not good enough. Don’t send us into Kenya; don’t make certain ethnic groups feel alienated and reified to such an extent that they would be forced to organise at that primitive, ethnic nationalistic level.

What I find regrettable is that there is an ethnic element to these comrades of ours that we are losing which is bad because this country has never had a serious problem of the tribe like other countries.
