Do Not Be Deceived By Enemies Of Our Struggle: Tsvangirai Shoots Down Gutu's Statement

The drama continues in the MDC-T party after President Morgan Tsvangirai reacted quickly and dismissed a statement from party spokesperson Obert Gutu regarding the leadership of the party. Gutu had seemingly contradicted the veteran leader’s appointment of Nelson Chamisa as the acting president of the party saying that he had it on good authority that Elias Mudzuri was still in charge. Obert Gutu’s assertion was the same as that in an unverified communique purportedly from Tsvangirai which had disavowed Chamisa’s appointment.

However, Morgan Tsvangirai used his Twitter account to dismiss the communique as fake and to warn that official communication was only delivered through his account and that of his spokesperson Luke Tamborinyoka. Said Tsvangirai,

I warned everyone who cared to listen yesterday that there is a shaking in the movement and that we should brace ourselves for what’s coming our way. Our struggle is being attacked left right and centre. The forces behind this are both internal and external.

The letter that is purported to be from me & trending on social media is fake. The signature and letterhead is fake. I pray that you open your eyes to these things, it’s very simple. It was necessary that I come to SA where I am getting treatment and therefore left acting VP.

Elias Mudzuribecame the acting MDC T president while Nelson Chamisa represented me in the MDC Alliance as the acting chairperson. You must remember that this communication was effectively delivered by Luke Tamborinyoka the MDC-T presidential spokesperson.

The simple logic that necessitated the move is that I am not in the country and someone has to provide leadership at the top with authority and in harmony with our guiding procedures. Now considering the scenario that both Elias Mudzuri and Thokozani Khupe are not in the country.

It only makes sense that Nelson Chamisa acts in both capacities. There is 100% logic and zero politics in that move. This was again communicated officially by Luke Tamborinyoka and is the order of the day. Now, I know that the fake letter could come from anyone bent on destruction…
