Simbarashe Mudzengerere, 31 and Paul Chitsa, 46, of Highfield, two of the people who were arrested for stoning former vice president Joice Mujuru and her supporters last week are still in custody after the state opposed bail. The two who are suspected Zanu-PF members were arrested on Friday and appeared in at Mbare Magistrates Court on Saturday facing charges of public violence after stoning Mujuru and supporters of her National People’s Party (NPP) at a rally in Glen Norah.
The state opposed the granting of bail arguing that the two are likely to re-offend as various politicians are carrying out campaigns across the country ahead of the forthcoming 2018 elections. The two are expected to appear in court again on Tuesday where Magistrate Stanford Mambanje is expected to make his ruling regarding bail.
