The family of the three women who were shot and killed by Carlos Chapeyama (23), a soldier in the Zimbabwe National Army, is demanding $12 000 in funeral expenses. The family said that issue of compensation will be discussed after settling the funeral expenses. They are insisting that the money for the funeral should be paid before any burial takes place.
Chapeyama shot and killed his 21-year-old wife Ashley Phiri and her siblings, Nkosivumile Ncube (16) and Rita Nkomo (23) after infidelity accusations. Chapeyama also shot his 18-month-old child Tlowi Chapeyama who is battling for life at Mpilo Central Hospital. After slaying the sisters Chapeyama turned the gun on himself but failed to commit suicide last Wednesday. He was remanded in custody on his hospital bed at Mpilo Central Hospital. He is being guarded by both the police and the military.
