Murwira Reverses Jonathan Moyo's Vision Says Polytechnic Colleges Cannot Offer Degrees
Newly appointed Higher Education Minsiter Professor Amon Murwira has said polytechnic colleges and teachers’ colleges should stick to their mandate of offering certificates and diplomas. This contradicts his predecessor Professor Jonathan Moyo’s statement where he said polytechnic colleges could offer undergraduate programmes although they could not be transformed into universities.
Said Professor Murwira:
We have had calls of polytechnics and teachers’ college(s) trying to offer degrees; we are saying no! You will continue doing what you have been providing. Polytechnic colleges, teachers’ colleges and universities were never created by mistake. I think the time of silence is gone. We have to be on target. The issue is that we cannot go to school for the sake of going to schoo; we have to show something.
