ZACC Needs To Be Overhauled As It Appears To Be Corrupt

Independent legislator for Norton and former Zanu-PF politician, Temba Mliswa has called for the government to reconstitute the Zimbabwe Anti Corruption Commission (ZACC). The outspoken Mliswa accused the anti-graft body of selective prosecution and alleged that ZACC itself, may be corrupt. Mliswa insisted that ZACC should be impartial and that it should arrest all those fingered in corruption without being selective. Writing on Twitter, Mliswa said:

ZACC needs to be overhauled as they appear to be corrupt themselves. Arrests shouldn’t be selective and people shouldn’t use the name of EDM as protection. Some are attempting to influence Parly Chair decisions. We’re watching and won’t be compromised or swayed from the role of oversight.

Reward Kangai, the former chief executive officer of NetOne, has also accused the anti-corruption body of trying to protect ICT Minister Supa Mandiwanzira by whitewashing the charges made against him. This comes after the anti-graft body cleared Mandiwanzira of any wrongdoing in the numerous allegations made against him by Kangai.

So far five former ministers have been arrested and these are Ignatius Chombo, Makhosini Hlongwane, Walter Mzembi, Samuel Undenge and Jason Machaya. All five were aligned to former President Robert Mugabe’s G40 Faction, which was against President Emmerson Mnangagwa succeeding Mugabe. The Mnangagwa administration is yet to make good on its promise by arresting Ministers aligned to Mnangagwa’s own Lacoste Faction.
