Anti-Mnangagwa Protester Should Be Mentally Examined: State

Gustaff Kativhu (45), who staged a one man demonstration against President Emmerson Mnangagwa and former Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) Commander Constantino Chiwenga at the Zanu-PF Extraordinary Congress, had his bail application postponed pending a mental evaluation by two government doctors because of the way his behaviour.

His lawyer, Job Sikhala however said that his client had no mental health issues but was suffering from post-psychological trauma following an assault by a group of Zanu PF criminals and thugs at their congress in the presence of police officers. But the State maintained it was satisfied that Kativhu should be examined which resulted in Harare magistrate Josephine Sande postponing the matter to January 4, saying she would consider Kativhu’s bail application if the State fails to send him for mental examination before the remand date.

Kativhu is being charged with undermining Mnangagwa and Chiwenga’s authority. He allegedly carried placards which were inscribed with the words:

  • Mnangagwa killed my friend,
  • Zanu PF is giving your jobs to China,
  • Mnangagwa-Chiwenga diamond mafia,
  • Chiwenga don’t beat vendors give them jobs
  • Elections by UN, else 2008 and another 37 years of no job.
