High Court orders bus company to pay $60 000 as compensation to dead teacher’s family

Retired Bulawayo High Court Judge Justice Lawrence Kamocha ordered P&H Investments (Pvt) to pay $60 000 in damages to Mr Rejoice Bhebhe’s family after he was killed in an accident along the Gwanda-Bulawayo road.

Bhebhe and four other passengers died in January 2010, when the car they were travelling in collided head on with an AVM bus belonging to P&H Investments (Pvt). The driver of the bus, Mr Rabson Sibanda, encroached onto the lane of oncoming traffic resulting in the collision. Bhebhe’s widow, Mrs Sanele Bhebhe, had approached the High Court seeking an order directing P&H Investments to pay her $180 000 in damages for loss of support following the death of her husband. However, Justice Kamocha reduced the amount to $60 000.
