Former Harare City Council town planner Psychology Chiwanga has been arrested as an accomplice to ex-Finance Minister Ignatius Chombo’s three counts of corruption. Chiwanga appeared before magistrate Ms Josephine Sande on Tuesday, who remanded him in custody to December 8.
Chombo is said to have violated Section 4(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act (Chapter 9:16) when he allegedly connived with Chiwanga, R. Pazvakavambwa, Iben Fransisco, James Chiyangwa, Theresa Chenjerayi, Elias Choto and L. Chimimba to forge documents to transfer a Glen Lorne, Harare, property from the Harare City Council to one Alois Chimeri.
Chombo’s lawyer Professor Lovemore Madhuku has since approached the High Court for bail and argued that his client should be granted bail as provided for by Section 50(1)(d) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, 2013. Prof Madhuku argues that there are no compelling conditions for his client to be denied bail as he is not a flight risk.
